Humanely raised meats and poultry, including beef, pork and chicken, are more important to consumers than ever. That’s why ButcherBox stays committed to sourcing only Animal Welfare Certified chicken and Certified Humane or Global Animal Partnership Certified beef and pork. Our animal welfare-approved meats are sourced from farms where the animals are humanely raised under strict conditions that allow them to live their best lives.
Let’s break it down and take a closer look at what it means to be Animal Welfare Certified.
Animal Welfare Certified Chicken
What does Animal Welfare Certified mean when it comes to poultry? At ButcherBox, our chickens are animal welfare-approved under the Global Animal Partnership five-step program, a certification program that meets USDA standards.
Our free-range organic chicken holds GAP 3 certification, meaning the chickens live uncrowded lives outside cages and crates, where they have space to live natural lives in an enriched environment with outdoor access, including shade. Our pasture-raised heirloom chicken holds GAP 4 certification, which includes everything that GAP 3 entails along with daily access to verdant pastures with at least 50% vegetation.
Animal Welfare Approved Beef
Beef from ButcherBox is always animal-welfare-approved. Our 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef is Certified Humane or Global Animal Partnership Certified. Allowed to roam freely on grassy pasture land throughout their lifespan, this beef is humanely raised for your peace of mind in keeping with ButcherBox’s core principles.
Animal Welfare-Approved Pork
The pork you buy from ButcherBox is raised crate-free and Certified Humane or Global Animal Partnership Certified. Hogs sourced by ButcherBox are raised in hoop barns or pastures using sustainable farming methods, so you can feel good about the food you bring to your family’s table.
Why Does It Matter if You Buy Animal Welfare-Certified Meats?
Buying animal welfare-certified meat matters because it ensures the humane treatment of animals throughout their lives. Certification programs require farms and facilities to meet strict standards regarding animal housing, feeding, handling and health care. By choosing certified meat, you support practices that prioritize animal well-being, including access to clean water, proper nutrition and living spaces that allow for natural behaviors.
Certification also addresses ethical concerns surrounding intensive farming practices that may compromise animal welfare. It encourages transparency in farming methods, promoting accountability and continuous improvement in industry practices.
