A rundown on how to grill the perfect steak begins with selecting the right cut of steak before you start developing (or polishing) your grillmaster chops. ButcherBox is ready to help with our Dad-approved Father’s Day Meat Box and other meat gifts for Dad.
Best Steaks for Father’s Day
The devil’s in the details when choosing the perfect steak for the special guys in your life — and just any old cut won’t do. ButcherBox offers 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef steaks so that you can make a big impression when it’s time to grill out (or eat in) and feel good about giving or serving ethically sourced meats. Some of the best steaks to consider when selecting meat gifts for Dad this Father’s Day or any day include:
- Top sirloin: A versatile and great-flavored steak, sirloin is moderately tender and super flavorful. Grill it whole or cut it into chunks and add your favorite veggies for kebabs.
- New York strip: Boneless, lean and tender, New York strip is an ideal (and very flavorful) grilled steak cut.
- Ribeye: One of the most popular and prized Father’s Day steak cuts, ribeye is great on the grill or seared in the pan. It’s tender, juicy and, when you order from ButcherBox, 100% grass-fed.
- Flank steak: For extreme flavor, this crowd-pleasing cut cooks quickly and is super flavorful and tender.
- Filet mignon: Its buttery texture and succulent taste make this cut, also known as tenderloin steak, ideal for both charcoal and gas grilling.
How to Grill Steak
Now that you’ve chosen one or more of the best steak cuts for your Father’s Day feast, a quick primer on how to grill steak gets you ready for the big event. No matter the cut, take the steak out of the refrigerator and let it sit for around 20 minutes at room temperature. While you preheat the grill to medium-high heat, season with your choice of seasonings or dry rubs. Grill from 3 to 6 minutes per side, depending on cut and desired level of doneness. Allow your steak to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
To prepare top sirloin, New York strip or flank steak, grill 4 to 6 minutes per side for medium rare. To prepare ribeye or filet mignon, grill 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium rare. Adjust grilling times for desired doneness level.
