Almost six years ago, ButcherBox became more than just a meat company when we began offering wild-caught, Alaskan sockeye salmon to our customers for the first time. Since then, we’ve added more than a dozen wild-caught seafood products to our catalog.
As we’ve expanded our seafood selection, we’ve heard from some customers about wanting a different kind of salmon, one that is more familiar to them in flavor profile. And that’s why today we’re launching our latest new seafood product: Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon.
Farm-raised salmon are bred, raised, and harvested in controlled environments like tanks on land or ocean pens. A majority of salmon produced worldwide and consumed in the U.S. is farm-raised. Sadly, most of these salmon are not farmed responsibly.
Through extensive research and careful consideration, we are proud of the sourcing partner we’ve discovered, Kvaroy Salmon, who shares our dedication to sustainability and animal welfare standards for farm-raised salmon.
This step marks another significant milestone in our ongoing mission to transform the meat and seafood industry, ensuring that our offerings not only meet but exceed the expectations of our customers while upholding the highest standards of sustainability and responsibility.
Our new product stands apart from most farm-raised salmon because 100% of Kvaroy Arctic’s farm sites are ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) and BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices). Both certifications evaluate the farm regarding how the fish, environment, and people on and around the farm are cared for and prioritized.
- No antibiotics or added hormones
- No chemicals
- Salmon have room to swim using open ocean habitats that contain roughly half the population of conventional salmon; there are 2% fish to 98% water.
Our Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon is not just about offering an alternative; it is about setting a new standard for farm-raised seafood, and it is imperative that we lead by example in advocating for responsible practices. Sustainable farming methods ensure that the fish are healthy, which in turn means better health benefits for you.
As many of our long-term customers know, relentless improvement is a core value of ours here at ButcherBox and feedback from all of you is invaluable to us. It drives us to innovate and improve continuously. Each decision we make is with you in mind, and we are committed to providing you with products that you can trust and enjoy. Together, we can continue to drive positive change in the meat and seafood industry.
