Cold Smoked Salmon & Capers Bagel

Last Updated on March 19, 2024

Cold smoked salmon, rich in omega-3 fatty acids and essential vitamins, takes center stage in this hearty breakfast recipe. At first glance, this recipe could be easily confused for a Lox and capers bagel, but the difference between Lox and cold smoked salmon is in the preparation.

Lox is made by curing salmon fillets in a brine mixture of salt, sugar, and sometimes spices, without undergoing any smoking process. It has a silky texture and a milder flavor compared to cold smoked salmon. On the other hand, cold smoked salmon is smoked at low temperatures for an extended period, imparting a rich smoky flavor while preserving the fish’s delicate texture. It has a more pronounced smoky taste and firmer texture than lox.

Tips:

  • For added flavor, you can squeeze a little lemon juice over the smoked salmon before assembling the bagel.
  • Customize the toppings to your preference by adding sliced tomatoes, avocado, or lettuce.
  • For an extra kick of flavor, consider adding a dollop of horseradish or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
