Fire up your taste buds with this BBQ Cheeseburger! Juicy burger patties seasoned with Sweet & Smoky BBQ Rub are perfectly seared and topped with melty cheddar cheese. Layered with sweet caramelized onions and slathered in your favorite BBQ sauce, this burger is served on golden-toasted buns alongside crispy, flavorful steak fries.

BBQ Cheeseburger
Ingredients
- 2 russet potatoes
- 1/4 cup grapeseed or sunflower oil
- 2 slices cheddar cheese
- 2 Butcherbox burger patties or form your own!
- 1 onion
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 hamburger buns
- 1/2 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
- 3 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 3 tbsp honey
- Butcher’s Sweet & Smoky BBQ Rub To taste
- kosher salt To taste
Instructions
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375F.
- Wash the potatoes and slice into steak fries. Toss with half of the oil and a sprinkle of Sweet & Smoky BBQ Rub.
- Spray the foil-lined sheet trays with pan spray and spread the potato slices evenly onto the trays. Place in the oven and rotate every 15 minutes until GBD (Golden Brown & Delicious), about 30-40 minutes in total.
- Make sure your burgers are thawed and ready to cook!
- Peel and slice the onion.
How to Cook
- In a large saute pan over medium-high heat, add 1 tablespoon of oil.
- Add the onions and cook over medium-high heat, stirring, until caramelized.
- Add the vinegar and honey, season with salt and turn the heat to medium. Allow to cook over medium heat until jammy.
- In another large saute pan, the butter over medium heat. Add buns and toast until GBD. Remove the buns from the pan and set onto a plate.
- Wipe the pan clean, place on the stove over medium high heat, and add the remaining oil to the pan.
- When the oil begins to smoke, season the burger patties with Sweet & Smoky BBQ Rub and add them to the pan. Continue to cook over medium-high heat, flipping every minute, until medium rare, about 5-7 minutes.
- Top the patties with the cheese, turn the heat to medium, and cover.
- Allow the burgers to cook, covered, until the cheese has melted, about 30 seconds.
- Remove the lid and transfer the patties to the toasted buns.
- Remove the steak fries from the oven, ensuring that they are crispy and delicious.
- Build the burger, add the caramelized onions over the top, cover with your favorite BBQ sauce and devour, alongside your crispy BBQ fries!
